Hello, I'm Hannah Taylor.

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and have in-depth training in both couples work as well as trauma work.

The connection with your therapist will be one of the most defining indicators of getting the most out of therapy. So, it’s only fair that you get to know a little about me to start to get a feel for that connection early on.

I’ve been married over a decade to my husband and we have 4 children.  As my kids have grown, they’ve started to reflect back to me that they see me as the one “who helps me with my problems.”  This is the heartbeat of who I am, not just as a mother and wife, but as a counselor as well.

Couples Work

When people let me into their most intimate relationships, I honor that space as sacred. We love someone so much and yet also can experience excruciating pain in the same relationship. We get sucked into a the same “dance” of conflict over and over. Sometimes we don’t even understand our own reactions or those of our partner. It’s so taxing to care for someone and ache so badly at the same time. I’m here to help break up that nasty “reactive cycle” that we fall into over and over through facilitating conversations that get to the root of the meaning behind our own reactions and theirs. This provides opportunities for understanding, love and connection that we seek…we just don’t know how to get there. I’d love to help support and serve you to get there

Trauma Work

Somatic Experiencing is where we trust the record the body has kept to keep you safe throughout your life.  As babies, we would get worked up and then soothed within our bodies.  Our nervous system knows that to do, it’s just forgotten sometimes under the weight of what we’ve experienced. In Somatic Experiencing, we remind your body of what it is STILL fully capable of doing…alerting us when there may be an issue, as well as soothe us when necessary.  One of the great things about Somatic Experiencing is rehashing of details of your trauma is NOT NECESSARY.  The body remembers what is necessary and we work to be able to increase distress tolerance.  Trauma comes at us from beyond what is our ability tolerate in terms of distress.  Therefore, our ability to self-soothe is stretched beyond its capacity and we are overwhelmed. In this therapy we engage your ability to soothe and relax and then gradually introduce distress in a slow and effective way to help your distress tolerance to increase and allow for you to start to self-regulate your reactions without “thinking about it.”  Your body learns to regulate itself, allowing for many of my clients who have done the work to experience events that would normally feel “intense” as “much more manageable.”  Eventually your trauma moves into that “manageable” place as well and you can live with more freedom and feeling like you connect with your own life more.

Emotion Management

When our strong emotions flex their muscles and make decisions for us, they are often ineffective choices. For those of you feel like “it just came out of nowhere” or “I can’t believe I just keep doing this,” the emotion regulations skills offered by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy are wonderful tools to start learning and applying to day-to-day life to help start making a difference in how your emotions and decisions play out. If you’re tired of your emotions “driving the car” of your life, Hannah’s in-depth knowledge of these skills could prove life changing.
